The SREC (Solar Renewable Energy Credit) customer support team at Sol Systems provides in-house services and assistance to more than 18,500 customers and partners. Our Service Spotlight Series gives our clients the chance to learn more about the individuals that support their SREC solutions. Today we chatted with our SREC Operations Analyst, Wyatt Gibson.

Wyatt Gibson is an SREC Operations Analyst.

1. What brought you to Sol Systems?

I took the pre-med route throughout undergrad, so I went into healthcare my first year. Unfortunately, though, I wasn’t fulfilled with my work. I started looking at companies in Washington, D.C., and came across Sol Systems. After talking to people on the team, it was clear that they all loved their work, and were passionate about the positive impact it was having. I knew I wanted to join the team and share that same passion.

2. What motivated you to pursue a career in renewable energy?

While learning about Sol Systems, the renewable energy was completely new to me, and I didn’t realize its complexity. I quickly learned about SRECs and the incentive they provide to people looking to go solar. In my time here so far, it’s been really interesting to see first-hand the benefits of what I do here through speaking with customers. While I have much more to learn, I know renewables and the work I’m doing is helping make the world a better place.

3. What skills are you looking to build from at your current position as a SREC manager?

I’m all in for the renewable industry now, so learning more about the trading process and commodity markets in which our SREC business operates would be very beneficial. I’d also like to learn a lot more about SQL, which we use in data management, as I know it’s a great skill to have outside of just its use at Sol Systems.

4. What’s your favorite part of working on a customer service team?

So far, I enjoy learning new things, and most average customers don’t completely understand the complexity of SRECs. It’s always fun to learn something new and then have the chance to help teach others as well. I also have loved working with the team and have met a bunch of great people so far.

5. Outside of Sol Systems, what do you like to do for fun?

I’m relatively new to DC, so I’m learning a lot of new stuff about the city. I love going to Nat’s games and checking out new breweries. In general, I like being outside, hiking, and exercising.
