By Amelia Faison

My name is Amelia Faison, the new marketing intern at Sol Systems. This summer, I join seven other talented professionals as part of Sol Systems’ 2022 summer intern class. While we only started a few weeks ago, we have already experienced an overwhelming amount of support in our new roles, with countless opportunities for learning.  We are excited about our work this summer and eager to contribute to the company’s growth.

It is my pleasure to introduce my fellow members of the summer intern class: Brendan Conley, Erin Volpe, Nicole Wan, Sahil Inaganti, Natasha Zaman, Kai Takayama, and Tasneem Khalak.

Brendan Conley joins Sol Systems as a Business Development Intern for Sol Systems’ commercial-scale development wing, Sol Customer Solutions (SCS) and will be working on the research and modelling of solar systems and the origination of selling onsite solar and battery storage to corporate customers. Prior to interning at Sol Systems, Brendan was a Research Intern at The George Washington University, participating in a Sustainable Shrinking Cities Project where he collaborated in the analysis of land banks as a sustainable alternative to vacant land in shrinking cities. In his free time, Brendan enjoys swimming competitively and spending time with friends. He recently obtained his B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University and is set to receive his M.S. in International Business in the Spring of 2023.

Erin Volpe enters this summer as the Development Engineering intern for the Development Engineering Team on SCS. Her daily tasks include using meteorological data in predictions for energy models, developing these models, and predicting soiling losses over the lifetime of a project. In her most recent role, Erin was an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Florida Electronics Lab, where she investigated variations in solid phase epitaxy, performed maintenance checks and soldering on circuit boards, and optimized software communication. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking and running. Erin is working towards her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida and is set to graduate in the Spring of 2023.

Nicole Wan interns with the Accounting Team, tracking invoices, entering data, and implementing workflows. In her most recent role, Nicole was a Business Analyst Intern at xOverTime, where she was responsible for troubleshooting clients’ issues using SQL coding and relational databases and overall branding and marketing strategy. In her free time, Nicole likes to bake with her family and volunteer in her community. She is currently pursuing a B.S. in Economics and Business from the University of Michigan and is set to graduate in 2024.

Since joining the team at Sol, Sahil Inaganti has worked with the Utility-Scale Development Team to research new solar project construction opportunities and attend meetings with potential clients and partners. In his most recent role, he was a Research Intern at the Alliance for Affordable Energy, where he participated in developing a strategy for the construction of a solar microgrid. Prior to this role, Sahil worked as a Legal Intern at Clear Sky Madison, where he assisted in the research and discovery of ongoing litigation for the development of an asphalt plant. Sahil is a double major working towards a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Political Economy, and a B.S. in Public Health from Tulane University and enjoys studying art history and exploring art museums.

Natasha Zaman joins the Enterprise Team as a Business Development Analyst Intern. Her work includes researching appropriate metrics and sustainability reporting guidelines to quantify the impact of Sol Systems’ projects. Before joining Sol, Natasha was a Summer Analyst at StormHarbour, where she conducted a report on economic mandates in Africa. Prior to her role as a Summer Analyst, she was a Summer Research Intern at Burj Capital, where she collaborated on the impact report of a flagship wind farm. Outside of work, Natasha enjoys attending work out classes and spending time outdoors. Natasha is working towards a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Boston University and is set to graduate in the Spring of 2023.

Kai Takayama is the veteran of our intern class, working on the SCS Business Development team since March. Before joining the Sol team, Kai worked as a Research Intern on the 1Cademy team; University of Michigan’s application that supports interdisciplinary research and learning through content generation, mapping, and evaluation. Kai likes to spend time with friends over the weekend and go on long bike rides. He is majoring in Economics with a minor in Sustainable Energy at Boston University and will graduate in the Spring of 2023.

Tasneem Khalak comes to Sol Systems as a Construction Development Intern. She is currently pursuing her B.A. in Environmental Science and Design at UC Berkeley. Outside of the office, you can find Tasneem kayaking near her home in the San Francisco Bay area, reading, or spending quality time with her friends.

As for myself, my responsibilities this summer will include obtaining market research and assisting with internal and external marketing affairs. During the school year, I work as a Team Lead and Education Chair at Rem and Company and am responsible for hosting team client meetings, managing a team in analyzing trends and research solutions, and leading professional development workshops. I am originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and am working towards a B.A. in Media Studies and Spanish at the University of Virginia. In my free time, I enjoy making mixed media art, skiing with my family, and exploring DC!

The Sol Systems team extends a warm welcome to our summer interns and wishes them well as they continue to develop careers in renewable energy. For more information on internship and career opportunities, please visit our careers page.
