At Sol Systems, how
we deliver for our customers and investors is as important as the value we
create for them.

Sol strives to have a sustainable impact on our communities socially, economically, and environmentally. We do this by developing clean, sustainable energy infrastructure, and just as importantly, incorporating these values into our business practices and company culture.  Our workplace community is driven by employee initiatives aimed at fostering sustainability in our own communities and those we serve. Continually, we look for ways to reduce our environmental impact, engage in community service, and make financial contributions that reflect and amplify our values.

A Renewed Commitment to Renewal

We know that our personal actions speak louder
than words. That’s why in 2019, Sol set a goal to be carbon neutral in our
business operations. To facilitate actions towards achieving this goal, Sol
launched our Sustainability Task Force to identify our current carbon
emissions, evaluate areas for improvement, and implement measures to reduce our
corporate carbon footprint.

The task force engaged the Carbonfund.org
Foundation, a 501(c)(3) which is leading the fight against climate change
by making it easy and affordable for any individual, business or organization
to reduce and offset their climate impact and hasten the transition to a clean
energy future.

To start, the task force surveyed and gathered
data from all employees to calculate the company’s emissions in six main
categories:

  1. Office Emissions
  2. Business Travel
  3. Employee Commute
  4. Events
  5. Paper
  6. Shipping

This carbon inventory provided Sol Systems with
a benchmark to analyze its current carbon emission levels and data on specific
carbon emission categories.

The task force then designed a carbon management
plan including short and long-term strategies to ensure the way we execute our
business operations is aligned with our vision for a sustainable and healthy
world.

Our standard operating procedures now include:

  • Office composting services provided by a local company
  • Energy efficient lighting
  • Meatless Mondays
  • Annual purchase of carbon offsets for emissions that could not be avoided

In
2019, Sol Systems achieved its carbon neutral goal for our corporate office with
the implementation of practices aimed at reducing our emissions and the
purchase of offsets through Carbonfund.org.

What
we have learned, however, is that carbon neutrality cannot just be a goal. It
must be a strategic priority. This is why we are committed to a net zero
carbon footprint.  Also, we are expanding
our carbon management analysis beyond our business operations to include vendor/partner
relationships, community outreach, and education efforts internally and
externally.

We constantly seek to improve, and we welcome your feedback and partnership to build a sustainable future for our children.
