Solar Industry Shines in New Solar Jobs Census

29 Jan 2015

The solar industry had a landmark year in 2014, according to the Solar Foundation’s 5th annual National Solar Jobs Census, increasing employment by over 20%. This growth represents the largest one-year increase in the survey’s history.

Sol Systems CFO George Ashton was spotlighted in the report’s “Worker Profile.”

Not only did the solar industry add 26,000 new jobs, it grew 20 times faster than the overall U.S. economy, accounting for 1.3% of new jobs added in the country. In fact, 1 out of every 78 jobs created in the United States last year was in solar. This exciting year benchmarks the sustained growth the industry has experienced over the last five years, expanding by 86% in that stretch.

Sol Systems CFO George Ashton was spotlighted in the report’s “Worker Profile.” Ashton praised the recent work of the solar industry, commending it for possessing “a common sense of purpose and a common drive to succeed in the right ways.” For those who are looking to enter the field, Ashton advised prospective entrants to “be willing to think creatively and work hard.”

As the industry ramps up for another year of impressive growth, Sol Systems is doing the same with positions open in D.C., San Francisco and the Northeast. More information about the openings can be found on our Careers page or by email at
