This fall, Sol Systems’ Sara Rafalson and Stephanie Smith both participated in the GRID Alternatives Women’s Build, putting their skills to the test in constructing a solar array (and learning a lot along the way from very patient GRID teachers). Smith and Rafalson both participated in Women Executive (WE) build sessions in Long Beach, CA and Washington, D.C., respectively.

The WE builds are part of GRID’s Women in Solar Initiative to bring more women into the solar industry and support them in their professional advancement.

Diversity is a core value at Sol Systems, where the management and staff believe that different viewpoints improve creativity, innovation, idea sharing, and problem solving. Women represent approximately 42% percent of the Sol Systems team — well above the national average of women in the solar workforce, which hovers around 19%. Sol Systems has also sponsored Women in Solar Energy, the 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to advancing women in the solar industry.
