University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Solar Farm 2.0 is 54-acre, 12.32 megawatt (MWdc) solar array. The solar farm was developed by Sol Systems and contracted through a 20-year power purchase agreement. It will produce 20,000 MWh annually, almost tripling the university’s existing on-site renewable energy generation. This project includes bifacial panels (which also capture reflected light on the back side of the panels), single-axis trackers, native pollinator habitats, and zero-waste construction with all recyclable materials. Sol Systems also partnered with the university’s sustainability minor program to conduct an emissions audit for the project, laying the groundwork for our sustainability efforts for our solar developments.
