When did you first become interested in a career in solar energy?
It is important that I lead a purpose-driven life and I place high value in spending time supporting a social, economic, or environmental challenge. Energy is a critical asset, essential for society to optimally function. My interest in power generation was piqued during my time at a global energy investment firm focused primarily on traditional energy sources. Working solely within the renewables sector seemed like the next logical step for me, and it has been incredibly fulfilling to contribute to an important global goal towards revolutionizing energy.
Why Sol Systems in particular?
The thing that really drove me to accept an offer from Sol Systems was the company culture. It was clear from my interview that employees at every level are highly valued and encouraged to think of themselves, run with their ideas, and take lead on those projects.
What have you liked most about Sol Systems since starting here?
Our all-hands lunch meetings on Mondays are a great example of the open company culture that I love so much. It’s really rare to have a weekly meeting that includes all staff members— from directors to interns briefing one another on department goals and updates. This transparency is what allows the company to be more efficient and productive.
The other satisfying aspect of my job is the fact that my team members are warm, friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable individuals. Collectively, we work well together and I’ve learned an incredible amount in my short time at Sol Systems, not just about solar, but also best practices in marketing and communications.
What are your thoughts on social media in solar and finance?
The solar sector is full of young, innovative, technology-minded people and it’s reflected in their use of social media for the most part. Finance, on the other hand, has been relatively hesitant to broadcast on social media. This is primarily due to the fact that these institutions are tightly regulated by the SEC and FINRA. Over the years, financial services’ use of social media has evolved tremendously; meanwhile specific sectors such as investment management, although see value in social media are still limited in online engagement. Since relationships and networking are key to obtaining new investors, I hope and expect to see even more advisory services make it a priority to embrace digital communication platforms without compromising compliance.
What do you like to do when you’re not Tweeting for Sol Systems?
I love to exercise, especially in classes. My favorite classes are boxing, barre, and yoga. I also enjoy blending essential oils to create perfumes and remedies to ailments. In fact, there was a time when I wore only my own home-made perfumes! It’s a great creative outlet.
