Virginia Governor Tim Kaine announced today the allocation of $15 million to provide rebates to Virginians who install renewable energy generations systems. The funding comes through the Renewable Energy Rebate Program and is part of a larger grant of $40 million to implement the Virginia State Energy Plan (SEP).

The Renewable Energy Rebate Program provides rebates on purchases made after June 25, 2009. Rebate amounts are determined by the size of the generation system. A residential photovoltaic system is eligible for $2,000 per kilowatt, up to 10 kilowatts in size. Residential and commercial consumers can also receive a $1,000 per kilowatt rebate for solar hot water systems.

Today’s announcement is part of Governor Kaine’s broader efforts to advance his “Renew Virginia” initiative-an effort to promote renewable energy, create green jobs, and encourage preservation of the environment. The funding for this program comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed by Congress earlier this year.
