Sol Systems participated in the Mount Pleasant Eco-Living Fair today, an event organized by the Mount Pleasant Solar Cooperative to help educate residents of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC on the benefits of solar energy. The event featured tours of residential solar projects already in operation, exhibitions on new solar technologies, and a presentation on solar cars.
“The Mount Pleasant Eco-Living Fair provided a great opportunity for local residents to learn more about how they can utilize solar power in their everyday lives,” said Sol Systems co-founder and CFO George Ashton. “We look forward to helping many of these residents navigate the financing of their new solar electricity generating systems.”
Sol Systems, a sponsor of the Eco-Living Fair, is a Washington, DC based solar energy financing and development company dedicated to making solar power an economically viable energy solution. The Mount Pleasant Solar Cooperative is an association of over 200 members that have utilized economies of scale to install solar energy systems on their homes or small businesses in the Mount Pleasant area of Washington, DC.
Sol Systems and the Mount Pleasant Solar Coop announced a partnership agreement last spring in which Sol Systems will purchase the solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) produced by members of the Coop. This agreement provides members of the Coop with a long-term purchaser of their SRECs for a set price, helping to defer the cost of the solar systems. Sol Systems sells SRECs to electricity utilities which are required to produce a certain amount of electricity from renewable sources under most state laws.
Sol Systems is one of the largest and oldest SREC aggregators in the country, operating in the states of Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
