Lars Olson serves as Director of Portfolio Management for the Asset Management group at Sol Systems, where he manages solar assets to maximize returns for investors.
Prior to joining Sol Systems, Mr. Olson worked as a portfolio manager in the Loan Programs Office at the U.S. Department of Energy. At the DOE, he was directly responsible for managing over a billion dollars of loans to innovative renewable energy projects, including three of the portfolio’s highest risk assets. Mr. Olson managed PPA renegotiations, dispute settlements, major events of loss/insurance events, changes of control, loan agreement renegotiations/amendments, and operating agreement amendments, among others.
Prior to his work at the Department of Energy, Mr. Olson was a manager at Castalia, an infrastructure economics and finance advisory firm in Washington, DC. He managed consulting assignments to emerging market electricity regulators and utilities, focusing on the finance and regulation of renewable energy, with the goal of expanding use of renewable resources.
Mr. Olson earned his M.A. in international economics and energy finance from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He holds a B.A. in international studies from Whitworth University, in Spokane, Washington. Mr. Olson speaks Spanish, French, and Italian.
